ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
NL Health Services – Labrador-Grenfell Zone invites expressions of interest for the position of Medical Director at Labrador West Health Centre in Labrador City, NL.
The Medical Director is accountable for the leadership and management of medical services at Labrador West Health Centre, providing professional quality medical leadership and knowledge to the site. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing and maintaining clinical services and will lead the integration of physicians, other practitioners, and employees within the region to better coordinate health services and ensure patients receive high quality, timely health care.
Operating in a complex and dynamic health care environment, the successful candidate is an innovative, collaborative, and transformational leader who will bring an unparalleled passion for health care. This position is suitable for a physician seeking to combine a leadership role with an existing clinical practice.
The Medical Director is accountable to the Senior Medical Director of the Zone and VP Medical Services, Chief of Staff within NL Health Services.
The term is three (3) years with annual review, which may be extended for an additional three years pursuant to NLHS Bylaws Respecting Medical Staff. We are looking for individuals who have strong leadership and communication capabilities, can motivate team members, move projects forward, and can translate innovative ideas into reality.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
- Current appointment to the medical staff of NL Health Services — Labrador-Grenfell Zone
- Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice
- Experience and/or academic preparation in health care management or leadership
- Training and/or education in leadership and management considered a strong asset
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide effective medical leadership and overall direction for clinical services at Labrador West Health Centre
- Champion and advocate for the site's services internally and externally
- Provide leadership for ongoing professional development, education, research, and innovation
- Participate in the ongoing planning and development of service delivery, facilitating and supporting change management processes
- Ensure full participation, buy-in, and morale are maintained throughout the site
- Ensure the highest quality of service is delivered consistently across all professional staff
- Support physician recruitment, retention, mentorship, and succession planning
- Promote quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-informed clinical practice
- Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
REMUNERATION
Stipend and hours of work will be confirmed and discussed with the successful candidate.
