ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Rural Zone invites applications for two (2) permanent full-time Fee-For-Service Hospitalist Physicians at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin, NL. These positions are available immediately.

The Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre provides health care services to a catchment area of approximately 18,000 people and serves as an important regional health centre for the Burin Peninsula, while also supporting two local Category B hospitals — the U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence and the Dr. S. Beckley Health Care Centre in Grand Bank.

Hospitalist physician coverage is generally solo, with Nurse Practitioner support from 8:30am–4:30pm on weekdays. Hospitalist shifts are 24 hours of coverage for 7 consecutive days, with handover occurring Monday mornings. Physicians will work an average of 1–2 weeks per month.

A shared 0.5 FTE appointment may potentially be considered as an alternative to a full-time position, or in combination with other clinical duties such as emergency room coverage, chemotherapy clinics, or family medicine clinic.

The hospital has access to comprehensive specialist and hospital-based support including General Surgery, Anesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, and the Hospitalist Program.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution
• Certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) considered an asset but not required
• Current certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
• Must satisfy credentialing and privileging requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary health care team

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide solo Hospitalist coverage in 24-hour shifts over 7 consecutive days with handover on Monday mornings
• Work collaboratively with Nurse Practitioner support during weekday daytime hours
• Provide comprehensive inpatient care including clinical assessments, investigations, and family meetings
• Liaise with specialist services including General Surgery, Anesthesia, OBS/GYN, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, and Internal Medicine
• Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary Hospitalist and clinical team
• Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

Remuneration is in accordance with the Medical Care Plan (MCP) guidelines for Hospitalist Services:

• CAD 188.85 per hour for in-house service (maximum 16 hours per day)
• CAD 16.43 per hour for on-call coverage
