Job Description - Wire Recycler

Location: Kingston, Ontario

The Wire Recycler is responsible for sorting, stripping, processing, and preparing wire and cable materials for recycling. This role involves identifying different wire and material types, operating wire-processing equipment, separating recyclable materials, and maintaining an organized work area.

The position requires strong attention to detail, safe equipment operation, and the ability to work independently or with other team members in a busy warehouse and recycling environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Sort and identify wire and cable by type, size, insulation, and material
• Identify XLPE-insulated wire, PVC-insulated wire, aluminum wire, and copper wire
• Operate wire-stripping and wire-processing machines
• Adjust equipment settings based on wire size, insulation type, and material
• Remove insulation and separate copper, aluminum, plastic, and other recyclable materials
• Operate a plastic baler to compact and prepare plastic insulation for recycling
• Move wire, cable, and recyclable materials using pallet jacks and other material-handling equipment
• Inspect processed materials for quality and proper separation
• Complete production or processing records as required
• Complete routine equipment checks and report maintenance or safety concerns
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Follow company procedures, safety requirements, and recycling guidelines
• Work independently or cooperatively with a partner or warehouse team
• Perform other related recycling or warehouse duties as assigned

Requirements

• Previous wire recycling, cable processing, manufacturing, warehouse, or similar experience considered an asset
• Experience using wire-stripping equipment considered an asset
• Knowledge of copper, aluminum, PVC, XLPE, and other wire or cable materials considered an asset
• Experience operating a plastic baler considered an asset
• Able to identify and separate recyclable materials accurately
• Strong attention to detail and material quality
• Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions
• Able to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements / Work Conditions

• Able to lift and move materials weighing 50 lbs. or more
• Able to stand and walk for extended periods
• Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and material handling
• Work is performed around machinery in a warehouse or recycling environment
• Environment may include noise, dust, and varying temperatures
• Required PPE must be worn, including safety footwear, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other designated equipment
