About Amii

Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) is one of Canada's three main institutes for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, our world-renowned researchers drive fundamental and applied research at the University of Alberta (and other academic institutions), training some of the world's top scientific talent. About the Role

The Manager, Instructional Support supports the development, deployment, and growth of Amii's cross-team instructional design and knowledge management systems. The Manager, Instructional Support oversees core Amii literacy functions to ensure effective, consistent, and world-class learning across all Amii training content.

Reporting to the Director, AI Literacy, the Manager, Instructional Support is a key member of the Training team, actively contributing to the execution of Amii's commitment to nurturing an AI-literate future. This position focuses on driving instructional design and knowledge management across all Amii training content.

The position focuses on achieving excellence in three main accountabilities:

Required Skills / ExpertiseKey Responsibilities:
  • Establishes and maintains the Amii Instructional design process to ensure consistency across Amii training content
  • Drives cross-team instructional design and knowledge management systems across all Amii training content
  • Establishes program design workflows, infrastructure, and standards to support content development and resource sharing
  • Maintains and improves systems and tools in the organization that lead to measurable efficiency gains
  • Encourages and identifies problem-solving approaches to work while acting as a collaborator
  • Approaches personal development and learning opportunities collaboratively and draws lessons for future coaching and people leadership opportunities
  • Identifies opportunities for efficiency and takes tangible actions to execute improvements
  • Provides supervision to junior team members by overseeing and refining their work, and managing approval processes as required
  • Mentors direct reports on career development and progression, drawing lessons for coaching opportunities
  • Fosters a collaborative work environment by facilitating teamwork and the exchange of ideas among team members
  • Encourages and maintains a problem-solving approach to work while acting as a coach and collaborator
  • Identifies and addresses knowledge gaps, providing solutions or resources to bridge them
  • Functions as a point of escalation for addressing challenges and facilitating the resolution of problems
  • Conducts performance reviews for direct reports
  • Calendar management, meeting attendance, informing oneself of and abiding by policies and procedures, and submitting expenses
  • Participates in organizing and executing organizational events
  • Represents the organization at conferences, workshops, and industry events
  • Fulfills additional duties to support organizational goals as needed
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Education, Machine Learning, or related field
  • 1+ years of experience in a leadership capacity in industry or academic setting (nice to have)
  • Experience developing learning paths specialized to target audiences
  • Experience with a variety of educational technologies and online learning tools (nice to have)
  • Experience in public speaking and facilitation (nice to have)
