ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone invites applications for a permanent full-time General Pediatrician within the Children and Women's Health Program at the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre in St. John's, NL.

This is a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive clinical care while leading the Pathways Program — an integrated, cross-divisional model of care for newborns and young children across Newfoundland and Labrador. The position is accountable to the Division Head of Newborn Medicine and the Clinical Chief of Child Health.

The Janeway is a 71-bed tertiary care referral hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Pediatrics (or equivalent)
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Experience in newborn medicine, developmental pediatrics, or program leadership considered an asset
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and oversight of the Pathways Program including coordination of integrated care across Perinatal, Newborn Medicine, NICU, Developmental Pediatrics, CAYAC, and General Pediatrics
  • Provide outpatient clinics including Well Baby, Breastfeeding, Perinatal/High-Risk Developmental Follow-Up, and NICU follow-up
  • Provide inpatient and on-call coverage for the Level 1 Newborn Unit and Next-Day Follow-Up Service as part of the Newborn Medicine rota
  • Lead quality improvement, data collection, and program evaluation initiatives
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching through the Memorial University affiliation
  • Work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary Children and Women's Health team
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
