The Chalmers Foundation is seeking an experienced marketing and communications professional to lead the Foundation's marketing and communications function as Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Manager plays an important leadership role in strengthening the Foundation's reputation, community presence, donor engagement and fundraising success.

This is a broad marketing and communications leadership role. It requires someone who can understand organizational objectives, audiences, and community context; determine how the Foundation should communicate; and translate that strategy into relevant and effective content and campaigns.

The successful candidate will lead the Foundation's marketing and communications strategy, including brand, digital and social media, content, media relations, marketing analytics, and campaign communications. They will work closely with philanthropy and program teams, provide leadership to the Marketing Coordinator, and direct the Foundation's relationship with its external creative agency.

The opportunity

At the Chalmers Foundation, marketing and communications are closely integrated with philanthropy.

Our work involves telling the stories of donors, healthcare professionals, patients, programs, and healthcare needs across our region. It requires understanding what our audiences need and want to hear, identifying the right stories and channels, and communicating the impact of philanthropy in ways that are credible, relevant, and engaging.

We are therefore looking for someone who brings strategic marketing judgment as well as strong execution capability.

The successful candidate will be expected to challenge assumptions when appropriate, make informed recommendations, use data to improve decisions, and help determine where the Foundation should focus its marketing resources.

Key responsibilities

The Senior Manager will:

  • Develop and lead the Foundation's integrated marketing and communications strategy, annual plan, priorities, budget and KPIs.
  • Lead content and audience strategy across social media, digital channels, email, web, print, media and Foundation events.
  • Guide the Foundation's social media and digital presence, ensuring content remains relevant to audiences and responsive to changing trends.
  • Provide stewardship of the Chalmers Foundation brand and ensure consistency across public and donor communications.
  • Work closely with philanthropy and program teams to develop marketing strategies supporting fundraising, stewardship, programs and community engagement.
  • Use marketing, digital, social media, website and campaign data to identify insights and recommend changes.
  • Lead media relations, news releases and significant public communications.
  • Maintain effective communications relationships with Horizon Health Network and other healthcare and community stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and direction to the Marketing Coordinator.
  • Direct the Foundation's relationship with its external creative agency and other marketing partners.
  • Develop clear strategic briefs and provide informed direction and feedback on creative work.
  • Support executive communications, including presentations, speaking notes and key messages as required.
  • Represent the Foundation at appropriate donor, healthcare, community and networking activities.
  • Manage marketing expenditures and ensure resources are aligned with organizational priorities.

The person we are looking for

You will ideally have seven or more years of progressively responsible marketing, communications, or public relations experience.

More important than the number of years is the breadth of your experience.

We want someone who has owned strategy, understood audiences, made marketing decisions, interpreted data, and influenced outcomes. Strong project management is important, but this role requires more than coordinating projects and deliverables.

You should demonstrate:

  • Strong strategic marketing and communications judgement
  • Excellent writing, presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing, social media, content and evolving audience behaviour
  • Ability to understand different audiences and translate insights into communications strategy
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn performance data into decisions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive working relationships
  • Ability to present recommendations, influence constructively and work through different perspectives
  • Adaptability when priorities or circumstances change
  • Ability to work effectively within a small, highly collaborative team
  • Experience leading or developing employees
  • Ability to provide clear direction to agencies, designers and other creative partners
  • Professional judgement when dealing with donors, media, healthcare partners and community stakeholders

Experience in healthcare, philanthropy, nonprofit, higher education, public sector, or another stakeholder-intensive environment would be considered an asset.

Experience with CRM platforms, email marketing, digital analytics, and marketing automation tools would also be considered an asset.

Working at the Chalmers Foundation

The position primarily operates in a professional office environment and requires regular collaboration with Foundation teams and interaction with donors, healthcare partners, the media, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

As part of the Foundation's relationship-building and community engagement activities, the Senior Manager will be expected to attend selected Foundation events, donor activities, networking opportunities, and community engagements outside regular business hours.

The role requires flexibility to respond to changing organizational priorities, emerging communications needs, and time-sensitive opportunities.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Band 3: $71,500 to $94,500 annually, with placement within the band determined by qualifications and experience.

The Chalmers Foundation offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and wellness benefits, as well as employer-supported retirement benefits.

Please submit the resume and cover letter in one document.
