The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to leaders and employees across the organization. Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, you are the first point of contact for employee and labour relations matters, playing a critical role in fostering positive workplace relationships, supporting organizational goals, and ensuring the effective application of human resources practices and collective agreements.

Working collaboratively with leaders, employees, union representatives, and stakeholders, you will provide proactive and practical guidance on employee relations, labour relations, conflict resolution, grievance administration, policy interpretation, and organizational initiatives. You will support a multi-unionized environment and contribute to the development of a positive, respectful, and high-performing workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

Employee & Labour Relations

  • Serve as the first point of contact and trusted advisor on employee and labour relations matters.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to leaders on performance management, attendance management, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes.
  • Interpret and apply collective agreements, employment legislation, organizational policies, and HR best practices.
  • Support and manage grievance processes, including investigation, documentation, and resolution activities.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with union representatives and organizational stakeholders.
  • Participate in labour-management discussions and support collective bargaining initiatives as required.

Human Resources Business Partnership

  • Partner with leaders to identify workforce challenges and develop practical HR solutions aligned with operational goals.
  • Provide strategic and operational HR advice to all levels of management.
  • Lead and support organizational projects, change initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Analyze workplace trends and recommend strategies that support employee engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Support the implementation of programs and initiatives that contribute to a positive employee experience.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Post-secondary education specializing in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive progressive experience delivering a broad range of human resources services in a unionized environment.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, completed or currently in progress, is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, employee relations practices, labour relations principles, and collective agreement administration.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex and sensitive employee relations matters.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, consultation, and relationship-building skills.

Salary Range

  • $72,000-$100,000 annually

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.

While Medavie may use automated tools, including AI, to support application screening, candidates are expected to complete all recruitment interactions independently-without AI assistance-to ensure a fair and equitable process.
