It is in this diversity that we find strength. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services invites expressions of interest for the position of Clinical Chief of the Provincial Cardiovascular and Stroke (CVS) Program.

The provincial CVS Program has the scope and mandate to deliver equitable access to quality cardiac, vascular, and stroke care across Newfoundland and Labrador. This includes core cardiovascular and stroke clinical services, prevention and support of well-being throughout the lifespan and across the care continuum, and the achievement of targeted, measurable, and sustainable clinical and operational improvements impacting cardiovascular and stroke outcomes in the province.

The Clinical Chief is a key role that brings vision, direction, and strong clinical leadership to the provincial CVS Program. Working within a dyad partnership alongside the Senior Director, the Clinical Chief is a senior leader and strategic champion within NL Health Services. Together, the dyad leads the CVS Program in accordance with the strategic directions of NLHS and the operational and strategic objectives of the program.

The Clinical Chief is co-responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the CVS Program, including cardiology, interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, stroke care, and vascular care. The Clinical Chief provides subject matter expertise and medical and clinical guidance, liaises with stakeholders including the executive team and zonal operational partners, acts as a spokesperson for the program, supports CVS Program innovation initiatives, works with academic, research, and advocacy partners, and actively engages in continuous quality improvement.

This is a three-year term appointment, renewable for a second term upon successful evaluation of the first term. The Clinical Chief will work with the Senior Director to identify mutual availability and manage practical and logistical considerations in supporting the dyad leadership of the CVS Program. This position is suitable for a physician seeking to combine a provincial leadership role with an existing clinical practice — the commitment is two days per week (1 fixed day + 1 flex day).
