Definition of work:

The provision of Single Session Walk- In Clinics is identified as one
component of a range of services to be offered in all four regional health authorities in the
province in Towards Recovery: The Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan for Newfoundland
and Labrador. This position reports to the Mental Health & Addictions Program Manager
responsible for the service.
The Social Worker III is a specialized clinical position that provides mental health, addictions, and
concurrent treatment services to individuals and/or family members. This position provides
single-session therapy using a broad range of brief interventions and postmodern theoretical
frameworks while conducting a professional analysis of complex situations. The Social Worker III
works extensively with the Youth population by providing Doorways Counseling Services in
designated schools across the Central Zone in keeping with the single session model of care.
This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment. The Social Worker
utilizes a variety of skills including clinical counseling, case management, assessment and critical
thinking skills. The social worker will work and liaise collaboratively with the schools, families
and other community agencies in the region.
When school is not in session, the Social Worker will provide Doorways Counselling services at
designated MH&A offices in the area. They will also be expected to complete triages of new
referrals as required. The successful candidate will provide preventative services based on a
population health approach.
The Social Worker will also be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students where
needed. This position may be involved in the delivery of a range of Mental Health & Addictions
services including the offering of individual, group and family therapy. The successful candidate
will be committed to partner with all team members to improve worker and client safety by
integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements.
Travel throughout the region is required.


Required qualifications:


• Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master’s Degree in Social Work from an
accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.
• Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers.
• Five (5) of the past seven (7) years of recent related mental health and addiction
experience.
• Advanced clinical assessment skills, advanced intervention skills, and therapy
experience with individuals, couples, groups, and families, clinical practice
evaluation, and research design methodology.
• Demonstrated advanced clinical skills in assessment, case management principles,
interviewing and crisis intervention techniques, social work programming and
delivery methods, analytical/critical thinking, organizational, leadership,
supervision and oral/written communication skills and the ability to work
independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated knowledge of best Practice Standards, as it relates to assessment,
treatment, planning, counselling and evaluation.
• Demonstrated independence, initiative and ability to work with others
• A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 driver’s license.
• Use of a private vehicle
• Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation,

• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this
position.
• A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
• Flexible hours may be required

• Travel throughout the region will be required.
