Position Title: Junior Baker Reports To: Senior Baker Location: 1364 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB

Position Summary

The Junior Baker supports daily bakery production by preparing ingredients, assisting with bannock, fry bread, breads, pastries, and desserts, and maintaining cleanliness and organization.

This role contributes to consistent product quality and efficient bakery operations while developing baking skills within Shelly's Indigenous Bistro.

Core Responsibilities
  • Measure, scale, and prepare baking ingredients.
  • Assist with the preparation of bannock, fry bread, breads, pastries, and desserts.
  • Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines.
  • Maintain clean and organized prep and baking stations.
  • Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and FIFO rotation.
  • Restock baking ingredients and supplies at assigned stations.
  • Assist with inventory counts and stock organization as assigned.
  • Support catering baking preparation and packaging.
  • Complete assigned cleaning tasks and sanitation checklists.
  • Operate bakery equipment safely and report maintenance concerns.
  • Maintain compliance with Manitoba food safety regulations.
  • Promote safe, respectful, and efficient bakery operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Previous baking or kitchen experience is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of baking techniques and kitchen safety.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
Training & Certification Requirements
  • Valid Manitoba Food Handler Certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba food safety regulations.
  • WHMIS certification is considered an asset.
  • Ongoing food safety and operational training may be required.
Employment Requirements & Working Conditions

This position may be full-time or part-time based on operational needs. Work schedules may include early mornings, weekends, statutory holidays, and peak seasonal periods.

Compensation is based on experience and the internal pay structure and will be confirmed in the Letter of Offer.

A three (3) month probationary period applies. Performance, reliability, product quality standards, sanitation practices, and teamwork will be reviewed during this period.

Employment is conditional upon:

  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, if required.
  • Signing a Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Signing the Code of Conduct.
  • Compliance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
  • Compliance with company policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements

The role requires extended standing for prolonged periods, frequent lifting of 30-60 lbs, repetitive motion tasks, and working in warm commercial kitchen environments.
