Salary Range: $66,586.00 to $80,470.00 per annum (ECD Pay Group 4)
Learning Strategists support students by providing academic accommodations and services at NBCC and in the community, including connecting them to provincial and federal funding resources. This is achieved by assisting students experiencing learning difficulties and those with disabilities that impact learning to ensure that all students have an equitable opportunity to succeed in a supportive learning environment and to ensure the college meets or exceeds its student success and retention objectives.
Key responsibilities in this role include but are not limited to:
- Create and implement Individual Accommodation Plans by identifying students' needs through reviewing assessments such as Psychological Educational Assessments, medical documentation, or Personalized Learning Plans.
- Consult with faculty to determine appropriate learning support for students' courses and/or programs to support the development of academic learning strategies.
- Provide ongoing coaching, supports, strategies, and techniques to enable students with learning challenges to capitalize on their strengths and compensate for their learning deficits.
- Work with the students to develop effective study strategies to meet their learning styles.
- Advocate for students by educating faculty and other NBCC employees regarding students' rights and needs in accordance with Human Rights legislation.
- Build assessment of learning outcomes into all activities and program offerings.
- Coordinate with outside agencies to ensure available support is in place to assist students based on specific needs.
- Organize and implement readiness programming. Participate in panels, webinars and workshops with recruitment and other student services teams.
- Lead, participate, and consult in working groups that create and review policies, guidelines, and procedural documents for NBCC relating to Accessibility Services.
- Work with agencies in developing processes relating to accessibility requirements of NBCC students for external exams.
- Assess students who have modified transcripts and qualify under Special Admissions for seat allocations.
- A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of recent and related experience, or a Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of one (1) year of recent and related experience.
- Related work experience must include working with evidence-based learning strategies and coaching that effectively supports skill development in areas such as time management, organization, studying, reading, writing, comprehension, test preparation, memorization, and note-taking.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse population.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite is required.
Preference may be given to candidates who possess education or training related to learning disability/strategy specialization, with adult learners, or with assistive technologies or who have experience working/teaching in a post-secondary environment. Case management experience and collaborating with accommodation support agencies and organizations would also be considered an asset.

This is a unionized position with terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the NBUPPE - Education (Consultation and Development) collective agreement for the College.
