NLSchools is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Director of Human Resources. This leadership position is responsible for the full management of all aspects of Human Resources for assigned Families of Schools in the Central Region of NLSchools Branch. Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, the incumbent will be responsible for recruitment and onboarding, grievance and performance management, workplace investigations and labor relations for all personnel within NLSchools Central Region which is approximately 92 worksites and 3000 employees. The Director works as part of NLSchools Management Team to further the aims and objectives in the management of educational and support resources, advising on grievances, investigations, and matters relating to support staff and teaching personnel under five collective agreements.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to a Regional Families of Schools team of HR generalists and assistants, ensuring outstanding service delivery across the Central Region of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Offer expert counseling to managers and employees regarding the interpretation and application of employment law and various collective agreements (NLTA, NAPE, CUPE).
- Deliver timely and consistent advice on employee relations issues, including performance management and grievance procedures.
- Develop and support technology advancement to be proactive in modern efficiencies on various HRMIS platforms.
- Develop and support recruitment programs, including process approvals, candidate screening, interviewing, and providing coaching on interviewing skills.
- Collaborate with the HR leadership team to ensure business processes align with the priorities of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
- Oversee the annual deployment of teaching resources and student assistants in compliance with NLSchools, collective agreements and government policies.
- Ensure regional compliance with the relevant legislation including: Schools Act, NL Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Public Service Collective Bargaining Act, Teacher's Collective Bargaining Act, etc.
- Foster a positive employee relations climate by addressing concerns proactively and maintaining professional, respectful interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Human Resources.
Qualifications:
- A Master's Degree in Business Administration, Employee Relations, or another specialization relevant to the position; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Successful leadership experience in a relevant field, including at a senior administrative level.
- Extensive understanding of Labor Relations within a unionized environment.
- Proven leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to use technology to enhance performance and efficiency.
- Superior supervisory, team-building, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deliver difficult messages respectfully and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Sound judgment and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Awareness of educational issues throughout the region served by NLSchools.
Salary:
- Remuneration will be in accordance with the Government's Management Pay Plan at HL-28.
