ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services invites expressions of interest for the role of Clinical Chief, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC).

The Clinical Chief, IPAC provides physician leadership, clinical expertise, and strategic direction to support the delivery and continued advancement of Infection Prevention and Control services within NL Health Services. This role supports safe, high-quality patient care through collaboration with physicians, IPAC teams, healthcare providers, and operational leaders.

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of IPAC initiatives, policies, and best practices. The Clinical Chief will work collaboratively with IPAC leadership and healthcare partners to strengthen infection prevention strategies, support quality improvement initiatives, and promote a culture of safety across the organization.

The Clinical Chief will provide expertise related to infection prevention, healthcare-associated infection prevention, outbreak management, and emerging IPAC priorities. The role will support education, consultation, and knowledge sharing with healthcare professionals while contributing to the ongoing development of IPAC services within NL Health Services.

This leadership opportunity is suited for a physician with demonstrated interest and experience in Infection Prevention and Control who is committed to advancing patient safety and improving healthcare delivery.

  • FTE Commitment: 0.2 FTE fixed and 0.1 FTE flex
  • Term: 3 years
  • Payment Modality: Dependent on the physician selected for the role

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution.
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca).
  • Demonstrated interest, knowledge, and experience in Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Experience providing physician leadership within a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention principles, healthcare-associated infections, outbreak management, and patient safety practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and healthcare partners.
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide physician leadership and clinical expertise to the Infection Prevention and Control program.
  • Collaborate with IPAC leadership, physicians, healthcare providers, and operational teams to advance IPAC priorities.
  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based IPAC policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Provide clinical guidance related to infection prevention, healthcare-associated infections, and outbreak management.
  • Support quality improvement activities and promote patient and worker safety through effective IPAC practices.
  • Provide consultation, education, and mentorship to healthcare professionals regarding Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Participate in strategic planning, program development, and evaluation activities.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to support effective IPAC services.

REMUNERATION

The Clinical Chief, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) appointment is a 3-year term with a 0.2 FTE fixed commitment and 0.1 FTE flex commitment. Payment modality will depend on the physician selected for the role.

Compensation: To be confirmed per annum.
