Position: Accountant I
Location: Confederation Building - West Block, St. John's
Department of Education - NLSchools
Job Status: Temporary Full-time to March 31, 2027 with the possibility of extension (35 hrs/week)
Salary Scale: CG-29 ($27.61 - $30.67) - CUPE 1560 Collective Agreement

The successful candidates will be members of NLSchools Finance team, reporting to the Manager of Accounting & Accounts Receivable with a focus on corporate accounting.
Range of Duties May Include:
- Reconciling and preparing monthly corporate bank accounts
- Reconciling General Ledger accounts on a monthly basis
- Preparing quarterly and year-end financial working papers for financial statements
- Overseeing day- to day functions of the financial activity of one small additional non-profit organization: NL Education Foundation Inc.
- Preparing/reconciling group insurance remittance on a quarterly basis as well as monthly HST remittance
- Completing pre-authorized debits (PADS) to withdraw funds from school accounts as necessary
- Preparing/entering various complex journal voucher entries
- Assisting in the development of accounting/financial policies and guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in Business with a specialization in accounting and 2 years experience in the accounting field, or
- Completion of a three-year college Diploma in Business Administration with a concentration in financial accounting supplemented by 3-4 years experience in the accounting field
- Knowledge in accounting and Public Sector Accounting Standards
- Proficiency in Excel and technology
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to work independently with minimum supervision are required
- Knowledge of Cayenta and applicable Legislation would be considered an asset
