The Security Office at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Dispatch Officer.
Classification: Full-time, Rotating Shifts IUOE Position (80 hours biweekly)
Rate of Pay: $20.21 per hour (plus $1.00 night-shift differential)

Reporting to the Manager of Security, the Dispatch Officer safeguards people, University buildings and property, and works to ensure a safe environment on the University campus in accordance with established regulations and procedures. The Dispatch Officer plays an active role in ensuring compliance with University policies, regulations, and procedures, as they apply to themselves and all persons on the campus. The Dispatch Officer is also responsible for the Mount Saint Vincent University switchboard and security lines. The Dispatch Officer will process all incoming calls and inquiries, record messages, and dispatch calls to Security and Facilities staff. They are also the primary communication resource for patrol staff. All emergency services for the University are centralized through this position. There is a requirement to handle cash and deposits on occasion. The Dispatch Officer handles key control for departments across campus.
The successful applicant will have a Grade 12 education, and preference will be given to those with related experience. Applicants should have well-developed inter-personal skills, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to work effectively under pressure and with minimal supervision. The ability to multitask and remain organized is essential for working in an environment with multiple phones, radios, and customers. Strong report-writing skills are required to accurately document incidents and activities.
A St. John's Ambulance First Aid/CPR course and/or previous Security Patrol experience will be considered an asset. The applicant must be able to work a rotational schedule, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required. As reporting systems and supporting documentation are primarily electronic, candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related business enterprise systems.
