Controller Position Full-time Position (On-site)

We are very excited to be partnering with a rapidly growing organization in their search for a Controller to join their accounting team based in Halifax, NS.
As the organization continues to experience significant growth, we are seeking an experienced Controller to join our team. Reporting directly to The Owner and Head of Business Optimization, the Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization while providing financial insight to support strategic decision-making. As the Controller, you will lead a proficient accounting team while you work closely with business leaders to ensure financial performance is accurately monitored and reported while helping the company oversee its financial processes, systems, and controls that will continue to support future growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting Team Leadership: Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor accounting staff, ensuring high performance and adherence to deadlines.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and account reconciliations. Develop internal financial policies and ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations. Coordinate year-end financial reviews and work closely with external accountants.
- Financial Management & Reporting: Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Manage and ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close our processes. Monitor financial performance and provide analysis on key business metrics and trends.
- Project & Operational Support: Support project accounting, job costing, and profitability analysis. Work closely with leaders to monitor project performance and financial results. Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and internal controls. Assist with system improvements and implementation of best practices across the finance function.
Qualifications & Experience:
- CPA designation preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, or finance field.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Experience in construction, property management, engineering, infrastructure, or other project-based industries is strongly preferred.
- High Proficiency with Sage and Microsoft Excel is essential and Yardi would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, identify and implement financial controls, and support business growth while remaining hands-on in daily financial activities.
