Dementia-Friendly Communities Coordinator
(Bilingual French and English)

Location: New Brunswick
Type: Full-time Hybrid/Remote

Behind every person living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias are hundreds of people dedicated to helping. The Alzheimer Society is the leading national not-for-profit health organization working to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by dementia while advancing the search for the cause and cure.

Since 1987, the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick (ASNB) has been committed to supporting individuals living with dementia, their families, and care partners through education, support services, advocacy, and community engagement.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Education and Outreach, the Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator will lead and advance the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick's Dementia-Friendly Communities initiative across the province.

The successful candidate will help create communities that are more inclusive, welcoming, and supportive of people living with dementia and their care partners. This work focuses on reducing stigma, increasing awareness, and promoting environments that enable people living with dementia to remain connected to their communities and continue participating in everyday life.

The Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and sustaining the Dementia-Friendly Communities initiative while building meaningful partnerships throughout New Brunswick.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of the Society's provincial Dementia-Friendly Communities initiative
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to design and deliver relevant, evidence-informed educational resources and programs
  • Contribute content for the Society's publications, website, and other communication channels
  • Collaborate with the Dementia-Friendly Canada initiative to identify partnership opportunities
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain relationships with grassroots advocates, municipal leaders, community organizations, decision-makers, and other stakeholders
  • Promote the Society's Dementia-Friendly Communities initiative through presentations, conferences, community events, and public speaking opportunities
  • Represent the Society on advisory committees, consultations, working groups, and community engagement initiatives
  • Perform other duties as required to support the Society's strategic priorities

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must be bilingual (French and English). Unilingual candidates will not be considered
  • Experience working within the not-for-profit sector
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline is preferred (such as Gerontology, Sociology, Public Health, Community Planning, or a related field)
  • Knowledge of dementia, caregiving, and the impact dementia has on individuals, families, and communities
  • Understanding of municipal, provincial, and federal government processes and decision-making
  • Experience developing and implementing community-based projects or initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience facilitating stakeholder consultations or focus groups
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn additional technologies, including client databases, content management systems, and webinar platforms
  • Valid New Brunswick driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout the province.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to work both independently and as part of a team

Annual Salary

$48,000 per year
