Finance Manager
Reporting to the General Manager, the Finance Manager provides comprehensive financial support and assists in the delivery of financial services and financial reporting to the Acadia Students' Union. This position will provide professional advice and recommendations to internal and external clients and has a broad range of knowledge relating to financial activities.
Position Purpose:
• To assist the General Manager and Vice-President Finance with the financial management of the ASU.
• Ensure performance of all accounting functions relevant to the Student Union: including payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivables and other accounting aspects.
• Provide internal control assessments/recommendations on regular basis.
• Ensure the observance of all ASU by-laws, regulations and policies within the Finance Department.
Principle responsibilities:
• Responsible for the accuracy of all financial records.
• Responsible for the completion and accuracy of the yearly audit file.
• Train and provide regular coaching to a co-op student and supervise work flow.
· Provide financial leadership and analytical support to other department
· Formulate effective financial oversight and maintains internal controls, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.
• Monitor the billing of all contracts.
• Assist the VP Finance and General Manager with the yearly budget, including bringing forward analysis of current practice and forecasting.
• Review all accounting records for accuracy and maintaining necessary timelines including:
- processed cheques for accuracy and sign off
- monthly bank reconciliation and cancelled cheques and sign off
- ensure that visas' and accounts payable are paid
- ensure that the accounts receivable are maintained and collected
- work with Retail Services Manager to record Purchase orders and invoices.
• Processes all casual and part-time staff paperwork for payroll and any associated benefits.
• Produce and review monthly financial statements for all departments
• Prepare the quarterly HST remittance.
· Assess risk, controls, operational performance and adherence to GAAP.
• Ensure the entry and accuracy of budget allocations, revenues, and expenses in Sage.
• Acts as advisor to the VP Finance with respect to internal group (clubs, house councils, societies) annual audit.
Education/Experience
Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or business. A combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent will be considered.
A minimum of 5 years in an accounting position.
Abilities and Skills:
Excellent knowledge in all aspects of accounting, finance procedures, preparing reports and generally accepted accounting/auditing principles.
Excellent analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Capacity to work under pressure of deadlines and multiple competing priorities which may require flexibility.
Ability to work independently, to take initiative, and to use judgment in matters of extreme confidentiality and sensitivity.
Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel and accounting software. SAGE experience would be considered an asset.
ADP Workforce Payroll experience would be considered an asset.
