Job Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, training, engagement, scheduling, recognition, and retention of volunteers across New Brunswick. Reporting to the Education & Outreach Manager, this role works collaboratively with staff, community partners, volunteer committees, and volunteers to support the delivery of programs, services, events, outreach initiatives, fundraising activities, and organizational priorities.

The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in building and sustaining a strong volunteer network while ensuring volunteers have a positive, meaningful, and rewarding experience that advances the mission of the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick.

The ideal candidate will enthusiastically support the vision and mission of ASNB and possess the personal qualities of integrity and credibility. They will have the proven ability to work within teams to accomplish multiple tasks and keep multiple projects organized and progressing. The position requires substantial effort to connect with, build community relations with, and engage targeted audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies to attract, onboard, and retain diverse volunteers across New Brunswick.
  • Recruit volunteers to support programs, services, support groups, awareness initiatives, fundraising events, and organizational activities.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities through community partnerships, educational institutions, corporate organizations, and volunteer networks.
  • Coordinate volunteer screening, interviews, reference checks, onboarding, orientation, and role-specific training.
  • Maintain volunteer policies, procedures, handbooks, training materials, and related resources.

Engagement and Coordination

  • Coordinate volunteer placement, scheduling, and ongoing support to ensure a positive and meaningful volunteer experience.
  • Match volunteers with opportunities that align with their skills, interests, and availability.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer communications, inquiries, issue resolution, and engagement activities.
  • Foster strong volunteer relationships through coaching, recognition, stewardship, and leadership development opportunities.
  • Provide administrative support to volunteer committees, including meeting coordination, staff liaison support, policy compliance, and volunteer-related database administration.

Training, Recognition, and Retention

  • Develop and deliver volunteer training, orientation, and learning opportunities.
  • Plan and coordinate volunteer recognition, appreciation, and stewardship initiatives, including Volunteer Appreciation Week and other volunteer engagement activities.
  • Gather volunteer feedback and implement strategies to strengthen volunteer satisfaction, engagement, retention, and leadership development.
  • Track volunteer participation, service hours, training completion, and engagement outcomes.

Administration and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, databases, documentation, and reporting systems.
  • Monitor volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and stewardship metrics, and implement strategies to achieve annual volunteer program goals.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations that support volunteer program growth, capacity building, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Brand & Philanthropy team to develop volunteer impact reporting and stakeholder communications.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, risk management practices, confidentiality requirements, and screening standards.

Organizational Support

  • Collaborate with staff across departments to identify volunteer needs and support organizational priorities.
  • Support community outreach initiatives, educational programs, awareness campaigns, fundraising activities, and special events.
  • Represent the organization with professionalism while maintaining a high standard of customer service and confidentiality.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties that support the mission and strategic objectives of the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in human services, social sciences, education, business administration, nonprofit management, community development, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in volunteer management, community engagement, nonprofit administration, event coordination, stakeholder relations, or a related role.
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, training, coordinating, and retaining volunteers in a nonprofit or community-based environment.
  • Experience supporting volunteer committees, advisory groups, or community leadership teams is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with donor, volunteer, or constituent relationship management systems such as eTapestry is preferred.
  • Fluency in both French and English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination abilities.
  • Experience facilitating training, orientations, workshops, or group presentations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and volunteer management, CRM, or database systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout New Brunswick as required.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
