About the Role

Labrador-Grenfell Zone is seeking five (5) motivated post-secondary students in social work to join our Student Health Intern Program for an 8-week paid summer placement. This initiative is proudly supported by the International Grenfell Association (IGA), whose mission is to enhance the health, education, social, and cultural well-being of northern Newfoundland and coastal Labrador. This internship offers a rare opportunity to gain hands on experience in rural healthcare, contribute to community well-being, and explore a meaningful career path in an underserved region.

Program Overview

The Student Health Intern Program places students within the Labrador Grenfell Zone, where they will work alongside healthcare teams to support community health initiatives, client services, and social programming. The program is designed to: promote equitable access to learning opportunities; address current workforce needs in rural healthcare; provide evidence based, structured experiential learning; encourage innovation in health education; build accountability through clear objectives and evaluation and Support long term workforce development in the region


Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a recognized post-secondary program in a health-related discipline, including but not limited to clinical care, public health, health sciences, or allied health professions, as a condition of eligibility for participation in this program.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Interest in rural, community-based healthcare.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to travel within the region as required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft suite programs - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Database/Access.
The successful applicant will be required to submit a Satisfactory Code of Conduct.

Duties:

Assist with the delivery of community and client focused health initiatives.
Participate in supervised engagement with clients, families, and community partners.
Work with social workers and other healthcare professionals to support service delivery.
Contribute to program evaluation through data collection, feedback summaries, and reporting.
Travel within the region as required to support program activities.
Other related duties as required.
