ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone invites applications for a full-time General Practitioner in Medical Oncology (GPO) within the Cancer Care Program at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John's, NL.

The Physician will work primarily in the outpatient cancer clinic and will be responsible for medical management of patients on the Medical Oncology inpatient service. Hours of work are normally 08:00–17:00 but may vary according to patient care needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Experience or interest in oncology considered an asset

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide effective medical management of inpatients on the Medical Oncology Service
  • Attend Medical Oncology clinics for assessment and management of patients receiving chemotherapy, including drop-in medical clinic and follow-up appointments
  • Attend to unscheduled Medical Oncology patients presenting to the Medical Oncology Assessment Clinic or emergency room
  • Participate in Cancer Care Program committees and quality improvement initiatives
  • Attend Department, Divisional, and Medical Staff meetings
  • Participate in post-graduate medical teaching and respond to education requests from hospital staff as clinical duties permit
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

Remuneration will be in accordance with the As per Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. Starting salary will be based on years of clinical experience.

Available Incentives: Candidates may be eligible for recruitment and retention incentives, subject to applicable terms, conditions, and program availability at the time of offer.
