Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Orthopedics at the Health Sciences Center, this position will work within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope of practice in the following category of practice: Adult or Family/All Ages. This is an advance practice role providing comprehensive health services to Orthopedic patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for the pre- and post-op care of orthopedic patients with hip and knee arthroplasty, back surgeries, and trauma patients. Candidates will be required to work in a team environment with nursing, social work, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, residents/ clerks, and physicians from other services. The NP would also be responsible for the Pre and Post operative care of the frail elderly with hip fractures as well as those patients undergoing restorative surgery and post op management with the goal of avoiding delirium and other complications, and assisting in the transition to discharge.

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, and supplies, Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.
Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.
Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Nurses (NLCN) and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Family/All Ages) with the NLCN.
A minimum of five years clinical nursing experience in the last seven in adult acute care surgical services is required.
Orthopedics experience would be considered an asset.
Current BCLS Certification is required.
