Overview
The Associate Residence Life Coordinator (ARLC) provides leadership and oversight during evening and overnight periods in residence. Working Wednesday to Saturday (approximately 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.), the ARLC is responsible for crisis response, incident management, behavioural intervention, and after-hours decision-making in MacIsaac and Bishop's residences. The ARLC directly supervises student residence staff, ensuring a safe, supportive, and well-managed living environment for students. This live-in position includes overnight on-call responsibilities from Wednesday through Saturday and plays a key role in supporting student wellbeing, community standards, and residence operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide after-hours leadership and operational oversight within residence, serving as the primary point of contact during assigned shifts.
- Supervise, mentor, and support student residence staff, fostering a positive community environment and promoting restorative approaches to student support and conflict resolution.
- Respond to student concerns, behavioural issues, emergencies, and crisis situations, exercising sound judgment and following established university protocols.
- Conduct regular residence rounds, monitor community wellbeing, and maintain a safe and supportive living environment for residents.
- Prepare accurate incident reports and shift documentation, ensuring timely communication and record-keeping.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development activities.
- During the summer months, support conference and guest accommodation operations as part of the Ancillary Services team
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Student Affairs, Education, Social Sciences, Human Services, Recreation, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working with university students, youth, or diverse populations in a leadership, supervisory, support, or community-building capacity.
- Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to challenging situations, exercise sound judgment, and remain calm under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience supporting individuals in crisis, managing behavioural concerns, or applying restorative and student-centered approaches is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions in a fast-paced environment, and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software systems.
- Must be able to work evening and overnight shifts and reside in the assigned residence as part of this live-in position.
