The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Building Design, the Architect provides architectural, technical, and design expertise while ensuring the successful completion of assigned building projects. Your work will include assisting with projects from initiation and developing building programs through the phases of schematic, design development, tender construction document, construction administration, and finally to completion of construction and occupancy.
- Define project requirements, design objectives, and functional needs to guide external architectural and engineering consultants
- Act as NSPHA's owner representative by reviewing and validating consultant deliverables across all phases of design and construction
- Lead and support the planning, procurement, and delivery of capital projects from initiation through construction and occupancy
- Coordinate internal stakeholders, external consultants, contractors, and service providers to ensure successful project execution
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and owner requirements to support procurement and delivery
- Prepare and administer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), tender documents, and contracts for design and construction services
- Identify and manage project risks, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations
- Monitor consultant and contractor performance to ensure compliance with NSPHA standards, applicable codes, and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
- Perform other duties as required
Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Architecture) plus five (5) years related experience.
- Active member and architect license with Nova Scotia Association of Architects (NSAA) or eligible for license in Nova Scotia (letter of eligibility may be requested).
- Have a strong technical background and a firm understanding of building systems and construction techniques.
- Ability to identify energy efficient architectural design solutions whenever possible to reduce consumption and running cost of buildings.
- Experience working with departmental management/stakeholders and providing feedback and negotiating changes to contracts or agreements.
- Demonstrates initiative in resolving problems while maintaining commitment to schedule, budget and enforcement of policies.
Nice to Have
- Experience leading and motivating a project team while inspiring confidence and creativity
- Have familiarity with AutoCAD, project management software, and project management principles and have advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent professionalism and judgement
- Good business sense and effective risk management

This position requires a valid driver's licence, access to a reliable vehicle, and be comfortable with regular travel throughout the province.

- Salary: $77,322 - $94,254 annually (PR 15)
- Schedule: 35-hour work week
