Bay Side Home's model of care is based on the Eden Alternative. We embrace a person-driven culture where activities and care are structured in partnership with residents. Bay Side Home is a licensed long-term care facility located at 96 Bayside Drive in Barrington and home to 62 residents.

Position Available: 80% Part Time (permanent) Recreation Programmer

About the Role:

Reporting to the Recreation Director, the Recreation Programmer plays a leadership role in facilitating Bay Side Home's model of care. You will work collaboratively with residents, their families, and the Bay Side Home team to provide Care at its Best. Strong leadership, teamwork, and clinical skills are essential in this role.

In this role, you will:

• Assist in providing activities designed to enhance the social, psychological, and spiritual life of each Resident at Bay Side Home.
• Create and maintain a positive atmosphere.
• Adapt activities to meet the needs and the ability levels of the residents as required.
• Lead and organize assigned activities.
• Assume responsibility for resident care and safety during activities, programs, and outings.
• Perform other related duties as required.
• Adapt to flexible scheduling to meet recreation needs.

Qualifications:

• One or two-year diploma in recreation or relevant experience.
• Knowledge of the planning, development, and implementation of group programs.
• Current membership with either Nova Scotia Recreation Professionals in Health or Therapeutic Recreation Association, Atlantic Canada.
• Equivalent combination of formal education and work experience may be considered.
• Eden Training, Alzheimer's and Related Dementia certification and experience in Long Term Care are considered assets.
