Dementia-Friendly Communities Coordinator
(Bilingual French and English)
Location: New Brunswick
Type: Full-time Hybrid/Remote

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Programs and Services the Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator will be responsible for helping the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick (ASNB) in advancing work to foster dementia-friendly communities in New Brunswick. One of the key objectives of this program is to create communities that are more inclusive and supportive of people living with dementia and their care partners. Fundamental to this work is addressing the prevailing stigma associated with a dementia diagnosis and creating an understanding of how physical and social environments play a key role in people being able to stay connected to their social and community life and engage in regular daily activities of living. The ASNB DFC Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of the dementia-friendly communities initiative, ensuring relevance and sustainability across New Brunswick.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of the Society's provincial Dementia-Friendly Communities initiative
  • Collaborate with key internal and external partners on the design and delivery of relevant, accurate and evidence-based resources and education
  • Contribute to the Society's publications, website and other communication channels
  • Collaborate with the Dementia-Friendly Canada initiative to find opportunities for partnerships
  • Assess, build and sustain a network of strategic relationships including grassroots advocates, key stakeholders in local government, community partners, influencers and decision makers
  • Build awareness of the Society's Dementia-Friendly Communities initiative, including representing the Society at conferences and events presentations for a variety of audiences
  • Represent the Society on advisory committees, consultations, working groups and other engagement opportunities
  • Other duties as required to meet the Society's organizational goals

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must be bilingual in French and English. Unilingual candidates will not be considered
  • Experience working with not-for-profit organizations
  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline preferred (e.g. Gerontology, Sociology, Public Heath or
  • Community Planning) is a strong asset
  • Working knowledge of dementia, caregiving, living with dementia, impact on individuals & communities.
  • Working knowledge & interest in local, provincial and federal political processes and decision-making
  • Demonstrated understanding of project development and implementation within community-building frameworks
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills. Community awareness with the ability to build trusting relationships with community partners
  • Experience in facilitating focus groups/stakeholder groups
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to effectively learn and use additional systems, including website content management systems, client database software and webinar technologies
  • Possess a valid NB driver's license and be willing and available to travel. Note: Some evening and weekend work is required. Flexibility with regards to scheduling is expected
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Takes a highly collaborative approach to work, and is very motivated
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, multitask
  • Must embody the vision and values of the ASNB
