Meridia is pleased to be partnered with them to bring a Senior Auditor - SOX to their team in Halifax, NS. This is an amazing opportunity for a CPA who is looking to enhance their skillset with a talented team and an award-winning employer.

Reporting to the Manager, Audit Services - SOX, this role will work closely with business process owners to perform testing of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) to ensure compliance with National Instrument 52-109 and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. This includes walkthroughs, tests of design and operating effectiveness across key business process areas for in-scope affiliates in Canada and the US.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Perform business process level walk-throughs, develop test scripts, and execute tests of controls to assess and strengthen Emera's ICFR.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and facilitate alignment in testing approaches and timing to maximize reliance.
  • Maintain relationships with affiliate employees, stay informed on risks and strategic initiatives impacting applicable in-scope SOX affiliates, and gain consensus regarding potentially contentious or sensitive items.
  • Stay current on NI5/SOX regulations, PCAOB auditing standards and IIA standards to incorporate these insights into testing and audit activities.
  • Monitor remediation associated with previous control issues, provide ongoing consultation on remediation approach.
  • Ensure Audit Services SOX deliverables adhere to budget and timelines and are socialized with applicable management.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • CPA designation.
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of direct or related work experience. Previous SOX or audit experience, preferably in a public company or public accounting environment.
  • Working knowledge of audit concepts and techniques such as ICFR, SOX Section 404 requirements, and the COSO framework.
  • Highly detailed oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience facilitating discussions and providing recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to remain focused and deliver results in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment.
  • The desire to leverage computer-assisted auditing techniques for data analytics, previous experience with Arbutus, IDEA or ACL is preferable.
