The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Divisional Supervisor to join our Mines Technical Services (MTS) team at Copper Cliff Mine in Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a 12-month fixed term position with possible extension, working on a Monday to Friday – 8-hour shifts.

In this role, you will supervise a group of technical staff (8-10 employees) responsible for providing technical services execution work at North Headframe and South Headframe, including but not limited to development and production layouts, and survey prints to enable the mine to follow the 3-month plan provided by the Mine Planning team. Collaboration with other MTS functional groups such as Mine Planning, Geology, Ventilation, and Ground Control are required to ensure a smooth operation and successful execution of work.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Ensure that the work performed by MTS execution staff is done safely, following Vale standards and government regulations, through regular job observations and audits.
  • Carry out all mines technical services work required by the monthly 3-month plan, including, but not limited to, production drill and blast layouts, production development layouts, and survey.
  • Participate in daily schedule review meetings, weekly 7-21 meetings and monthly planning meetings.
  • Complete monthly reporting on KPI actuals, including all required budget driver actuals data, incentive calculation requirements.
  • Complete daily reporting of actuals for all critical metrics including daily tons hoisted, trucked, mucked; feet developed; feet drilled; sandfill poured, etc.
  • Be accountable for the care and calibration of all technical instruments and software used by the MTS execution team and providing required service to respective mine in order complete on mine plans (survey, ventilation, ground control QA/QC, microseismic, etc.).
  • Provide required performance feedback and data to support the mine plan to various groups.
  • Ensure the capability of all direct report engineering and technical staff meets the encouraged performance level, coach and mentor direct reports.
  • Understand the Engineer-in-Training program Progression and non-Engineering technical staff career progression program and develop direct reports.

About You

Education:

  • Degree in Mining or Geological Engineering, Mines Technology or Geology.
  • Common Core: First Line Underground Mine Supervisor Common Core (770121) or Common Core for First Line Production Supervisor Underground Hard Rock Mining (770120) is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Underground Execution Technical Services.
  • Proficiency in underground mine design, mining technology, and high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
  • Knowledge of engineering plannin software (Deswick) is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products is required.

Skills:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must understand risk and how to safely manage it.
  • Must demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
  • Change management skills and openness to learning and sharing new insights.
  • Drive for sustainable results with a strong focus on continuous improvement
