Plant Operations Supervisor - Eastern

Key Responsibilities:
You will provide direct supervision to the Lead Hydro Plant Operators, Hydro Plant Operators, and PSO Apprentices. When required you will provide general direction and technical guidance to remote plant operators and provide supervisory support for remote operations. You will supervise, direct, and co-ordinate activities of all plant personnel as well as monitor conditions of plant and reservoir control structures and, when required, be the liaison with the Energy Control Center (ECC) on the day-to-day operational issues. You will provide oversight and mentoring of the Power System Operator apprentices ensuring periodic reviews are conducted to check for understanding of the asset base and that assignments are completed and logbooks properly documented.
You will also assist the Operations Manager with the co-ordination of activities with plant maintenance and training requirements. You will administer the work protection code and coordinate with the Work Execution & Planning groups to ensure work permits are available and in place as required. You will assist with administering Work Protection Code Training and conduct both paper and live audit of the code to ensure consistency and effectiveness. You will provide oversight and ensure consistency with the development of the comprehensive operating instructions for the operation.
You will be responsible to help set the priorities for execution of work on planned and unscheduled work. Assisting to supervise maintenance crew on Unit Annual inspections and assigning specific assignments to each employee, making regular checks to ensure that work is being done in a safe and efficient manner and that an appropriate level of productivity is maintained.
As required you will also assist the Long-Term Asset Planning group and the Work Execution Group to develop comprehensive preventive maintenance programs and schedules, to ensure that all Hydro Generation equipment associated with all Hydro plants, buildings, control structures and spill-way structures are properly maintained with a view to achieving maximum service life and efficiency.
Generation performance and reliability is also a key focus of this role and will include but is not limited to:
- Reviewing and examining operating data.
- Coaching the operations group to ensure optimum plant availability, reliability and performance.
- Ensuring accurate record of all significant events with respect to plant operations and systems.
- Monitoring equipment through onsite inspections and regular reviewing of operating data, logs and trend monitoring of critical plant equipment.
- Investigating, in coordination with the LTAP group, unit forced outages and other equipment failures to determine root cause and implementing remedial actions where possible to reduce and/or prevent potential for future occurrences.
- Supporting Performance & Reliability initiatives by assisting in development and identification of key performance indicators and equipment parameters. Ensuring required operational data is collected and reported appropriately and assisting to analyze performance indices, trend data, and failure data.
- Participation in monthly Generation Performance meetings.
- Other duties may be assigned as operational priorities change.
What We're Looking For:
- You must be able to work well in a team environment and have excellent leadership qualities, good communication skills, and have the ability to train others.
- You possess a good working knowledge of computers with appropriate awareness of various corporate applications as necessary. These may include, but are not limited to, the Microsoft Suite of applications, JD Edwards, Showcase Strategy, computerized inventory, and maintenance programs.
What You'll Need:
- You have graduated high school, supplemented by either the successful completion of a three year Technology Program preferably with Electrical and Power/Industrial Controls option or certification as a Journey person Industrial Electrician.
- You also have a minimum of six years of experience in the operation and maintenance of Hydro plants and have experience in running maintenance trend monitoring, switching, strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of maintenance programs would be considered an asset.
- Power System Operator certification would be an asset.
