Position Summary
This is a full-time position working an average of 5 days (37.5 hrs) per week. The hours of work offer some flexibility, with most tasks completed Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. Compensation includes a salary ranging from $85,000 to $90,400, as well as medical, dental, and retirement savings contributions.
This role supports the regulatory compliance of paramedicine practitioners across the province. The successful candidate will possess clinical expertise, program coordination skills, and an understanding of the provincial healthcare system and self-regulation.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director/Registrar, this role supports upholding professional standards and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include coordinating the continuing-competence program, practice review process and practice consultation, as well as supporting the regulatory functions associated with registration and licensing, and professional conduct.
To support these functions, the Regulatory Program Coordinator works closely with other Regulator staff, Statutory and Board Appointed Committees, and other key interested parties. The Regulatory Program Coordinator is not responsible for the direct supervision of staff.
The Regulatory Program Coordinator will operate in accordance, and comply, with the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and its General Regulations, the Paramedicine Regulations, the Canada Free Trade Agreement, the Patient Access to Care Act, the Nova Scotia Fair Registration Practice Act and the Nova Scotia Regulated Health Professions Network Act, as well as the Regulator's Bylaws and Policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate key regulatory functions associated with regulatory tool development, the continuing competence program, and the practice review program.
- Supporting key regulatory functions associated with registration, licensing, and professional conduct.
- Offer regulatory guidance on paramedicine practice, including contributing to the development of practice guidelines and addressing professional practice issues.
- Provide regulatory practice advice to registrants and affected interested parties, as required.
- Proficiently facilitate workshops and meetings to promote and support regulatory program initiatives.
- Design evaluation strategies for regulatory programs, compiling detailed reports on outcomes for the Executive Director/Registrar.
- Support the Regulator's statutory and board-appointed committees, as necessary.
- Review existing policies and recommend changes to the Executive Director/Registrar.
- Attend Committee meetings, as necessary.
- Ensure files are securely stored and privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
- Maintain positive relationships with key interested parties (Registrants, Employers, EHSNS, NSDHW, NSDLAE, COPR, HSO/AC, CIHI, Unions, Associations, Educational Institutions, etc).
- Support good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with interested parties.
- Provide operational and strategic support to the Executive Director/Registrar, as required.
- Engage in education and research in relation to regulating the practice of paramedicine.
- Other related duties as determined by the Executive Director/Registrar.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Preference will be given to an individual who is currently licensed or eligible for licensing as a paramedicine practitioner in Nova Scotia.
- Graduate of a recognised post-secondary education program.
- Preference may be given to applicants with a university degree in a related field.
- Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Excellent organisational, writing, communication, and public presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member within a collaborative environment with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations.
- Ability to deal with confidential information with a high degree of judgment and discretion.
- Ability to recognise and manage sensitive issues.
- Ability to travel (provincial & national) as required.
