The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Production Area Superintendent to join our Long Harbour Operations.

This is a permanent on-site position, working a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday) at the Long Harbour Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.

As a Production Area Superintendent, you will be responsible for the overall performance, delivery, and development of your teams. Your experience and skills will ensure that teams deliver on operational and business commitments. The Superintendent will align the behavior of the Coaches (Supervisors) to effectively create teams that work and perform in alignment with Vale's principles and attributes.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Ensure Key Behaviors are integral in all routines and activities. Coach members of assigned areas to consistently achieve desired outcomes and take corrective action to address non-compliance, ensuring HomeSafe goals are met.
  • Develop the Coaches and teams to become self-sufficient in operating the day to day operations, while ensuring that all policies/procedures and company organizational concepts are adhered to.
  • Drive for development, implementation and continual improvement of systems to support team activities to generate ever increasing value from the operation.
  • Provide business direction to the Coaches and develop the Coach's business acumen and their ability, capacity to develop their teams. Provide strategic and tactical perspectives as well as defining boundaries to guide successful decision making.
  • Create a work environment that generates ownership and initiative in Coaches whereby the Coaches are effective in developing their team members to be actively engaged and understand their role in sustaining the core processes.
  • Work closely with Peers and support departments to drive consistency of standard processes across and within production areas.
  • Lead projects to improve production performance and reduce cost structure in their business unit.

About You

Education:

  • Post-Secondary education within a related field.
  • Professional Engineer preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in a similar role preferred
  • Industrial and/or operating environment an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Metallurgical and process knowledge and experience an asset.
