The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Analyst Occupational Health to join our Occupational Health Team in Sudbury, ON.

This is a permanent position covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers.

The primary function of the role as an Intermediate Analyst Occupational Health is to support with all matters related to Occupational Hygiene providing ongoing service, technical support and advice to the line organization, to maintain compliance with applicable legislation, the SHE Management System as well as Service Level Agreements.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provide technical advice and support to the site to maintain compliance with the SHE
    Management System, Legal Requirements and Service Level Agreements.
  • Provide education and deliver routine training presentations to workers.
  • Report status of Occupational Hygiene programs to Joint Health and Safety Committee.
    Make recommendations. Approaches changing environments by being a resource and
    influencing work groups.
  • Perform health risk assessments that include identification, assessment, and analysis of the risk. Recommend controls and strategies to meet Occupational Hygiene standards and to reduce the risk to ALARA. Plan the work within the objectives and manage time.
  • Consult with analytical laboratories pertaining to sampling and analytical methods.
  • Identify and solve basic sampling strategies, collect and analyze samples to assess worker exposure to physical, chemical and biological gents. Apply statistical analytical techniques to summarize data.
  • Collect and analyze samples to assess worker exposure to physical, chemical and biological agents. Determine airborne exposure concentration of contaminants and compare them to regulatory standards and guidelines as well as accepted occupational exposure criteria.
  • Execute on Occupational Hygiene Programs and associated medical surveillance requirements: Asbestos Abatement & Management; Designated Substance; Occupational Exposure Monitoring; Respiratory Protections; Hearing Conservation; Hazardous Materials; Heat Stress; Cold Stress; and other related programs.

About You

Education:

  • University or College degree/diploma in a science field or equivalent.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in occupational hygiene discipline. Experience should include knowledge of OH&S regulations and standards, knowledge and experience with workplace monitoring and sampling techniques, and familiarity with data collection, analyses, reporting and presentations.

Skills:

  • Use of technical monitoring equipment, conduct occupational hygiene risk
    assessments, administer occupational hygiene monitoring programs, manage databases.
  • Able to write or modify text to accurately communicate information and provide sufficient context when required.
  • Able to present moderately complex information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Reading, understanding and interpretation of text and concepts from a variety of sources, i.e. legal, contractual, technical theory or government regulations.
  • Able to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations including simple statistics, logarithms and exponents.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
  • Understanding of Ontario Operations plants and processes.

Other Job Considerations

  • Physical Effort: Moderate physical fatigue or strain results from frequent or longer periods of intense physical effort or almost continuous light physical effort. Moderate physical exertion may be required to do the job.
  • Working Environment: The workplace varies widely and may entail exposure to various outdoor conditions and risks expected during all seasons. This role will be above and below ground.
