We are currently looking for a Manager, Distribution Control Centre to join our Control Centre management team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Director, Control Centre Operations, this position is responsible for the safe and secure operation of the NS Power electric power system.

As a member of the Control Centre management team, you are accountable to deliver effective leadership to the Distribution Control Centre System Operators and Outage Dispatchers and support the development and execution of departmental strategic business plans and budgets.


Key elements of this role include:

As Manager, Distribution Control Centre you will:

  • Ensure that Control Centre operating processes and procedures promote reliable and secure system operation and are effectively executed by operations personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures by conducting operational performance reviews, participating in the update of existing procedures and ensuring new/revised procedures are effectively implemented.
  • Liaise with other business units, including the Distribution Engineering, Protection & Control, Telecommunications and Operational Technology Teams to support Distribution Control Centre Operations.
  • Support the Emergency Operations Centre by managing the 911 Support and Storm Outage Dispatcher programs.
  • You will manage a staffing profile to ensure qualified operating personnel are available through effective succession planning and apprenticeship training. As well, you will develop and sustain the necessary training programs for the development of operations personnel to meet both competency and regulatory compliance objectives.
  • You will be required to provide oversight and direction to the response to operational contingencies both during and outside of normal working hours.
  • You will ensure that your assigned responsibilities under the Control Centre Operations safety program are implemented, and the required level of compliance/participation is achieved amongst Control Centre operating personnel.
  • You will maintain constructive working relationships with technical and management personnel to ensure effective business and operational process execution.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

  • The successful candidate will be a university graduate or possess a suitable combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years in a supervisory/management/leadership role is required.
  • You must possess excellent leadership, management, communication, organizational, and motivational skills to be able to work effectively as a leader in Control Centre Operations.
  • You possess strong oral and written communication skills and a strong customer service ethic.
  • You possess good interpersonal skills and are able to function effectively in a team environment.
  • You must demonstrate your commitment to personal development.
  • You must be available for after-hour consultation and emergency power restoration work.
