STERILE SUPPLY TECHNICIANEASTERN ZONE – CLARENVILLE REGION

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) is looking for dedicated individuals in the Clarenville region to train as Sterile Supply Technicians. NLHS will be offering funding for one seat in the Sterile Supply Technician Program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sterile Supply Technicians (SST) are responsible for performing a series of detailed technical duties related to decontamination, high level disinfection, sterilization, reassembly and function testing of flexible endoscopes, reusable medical devices, equipment and surgical instruments throughout various areas of a hospital. It includes performing quality testing to validate equipment function and documenting results, assembling and packing instruments and tray, and participating in the evaluation and trial of medical devices. This is completed in accordance with the principles of Infection Prevention and Control, safety standards, Eastern Health policies and Manufacturer's instructions for use. Performs other related tasks as required with regard to Medical Device Reprocessing

JOB DEMANDS

  • Constantly handles or moves medical supplies, equipment, instrument containers, and wraps up to 11 lbs; occasionally handles material up to 22 lbs and pushes and pulls carts using medium force up to 44 lbs.
  • Constantly stands and walks for an extended period of time and lift, push, and pull trays; regularly works in awkward/cramped positions. Occasionally sits when working on the computer.
  • Constantly uses fine finger or precision work on the computer and operates hand tools to manually clean instruments/equipment.
  • Constantly requires visual concentration and hand-eye coordination.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
  • The entrance requirements for the respective educational institution to complete the Sterile Supply Technician/Medical Device Reprocessing program form a recognized/approved college including the College of the North Atlantic, Academy Canada and Purdue University. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Financial Support:

Financial assistance may be available to reimburse some of the costs to support employees in completing the Sterile Supply Technician program to a maximum of $1000.00. A return-in-service agreement will be required, and the length will depend on the total amount of funding provided. Applicants who successfully complete the program may be offered employment, at which time the service obligation would begin.
