Our employees are at the heart of what we do. We're looking for passionate and performance focused people - people who want to make a difference for our customers and who share our values.

Key Responsibilities:

The Transmission Planning team is responsible for planning the Newfoundland and Labrador interconnected transmission systems through the completion of appropriate studies to determine transmission and terminal equipment requirements to maintain a reliable supply of power and energy for customers. This team also plays a crucial role in the integration of major transmission/generation assets and any proposed large customer interconnections to the existing NL transmission systems. The Transmission Planning team also provides technical support to the Newfoundland and Labrador System Operator (NLSO) in the form of operational studies.

Your main responsibility would be to serve as the primary interface between the Transmission Planning team and numerous groups across NL Hydro. In this technical role, you will ensure clear technical communication while working with stakeholders including Engineering Services, Interconnection & Business Development, Reliability Standards & Commercial Compliance and Major Projects. Objectives will involve the definition and management of technical deliverables and their establishing timelines. The role will put you at the centre of Hydro's customer interconnection process where you will problem-solve and eliminate barriers as part of the effective management of the Hydro and NLSO study queues.

Other responsibilities would include carrying out (or supporting) power system studies involving load flow, stability and fault analysis using PSS®E. You will assess the existing transmission system using predetermined planning criteria to determine when and where problems will occur with regards to system capacity and forecasted customer growth. You will formulate alternatives to alleviate these problems and complete technical and economic evaluation of the alternatives. You will also be responsible for preparing technical reports detailing the alternatives studied and the recommended solution. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing day-to-day technical support to our Operations and Engineering Groups.

What We're Looking For:
1. Strong written and oral communication skills;
2. Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with members of the team;
3. Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities.

What You'll Need:

You have graduated from a recognized University with a Degree in Electrical Engineering. You are eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL). You must be able to work well in a team environment and have excellent leadership qualities, written and oral communications skills. Strong organization skills would be mandatory for this position. You should also possess a high level of proficiency in the use of computing devices and software applications. You must possess and maintain an appropriate valid driver's license. Experience with PSS®E would be an asset.
