The Senior Specialist, Digital Content & Strategy is responsible for implementing fundraising strategies and initiatives to generate the raising of philanthropic revenue. Reporting to the Director, Digital and Sustainer Marketing, this role plays a critical role overseeing the content and creative strategy for campaigns, philanthropy web content and emergency appeals on the Digital and Sustainer Marketing Team. The incumbent will use their extensive expertise in creative and content writing to support large-scale digital fundraising campaigns and appeals. The incumbent will work on creating creative strategies and generating content for specific audiences, including the Francophone community in Quebec and across Canada in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Digital Marketing. You will liaise with philanthropy, communications and agency partners to enhance fundraising opportunities and creative storytelling, and develop engaging content for the web, email, search, paid advertising, SMS and more in support of organizational goals and objectives.

In addition, this role will work with the broader Digital & Direct Marketing team to ensure all campaign and appeal-related content is integrated with the rest of our mass marketing work and in compliance with ethical fundraising standards and best practices.

In this role, you will :

  • Work on creative and content strategy planning for digital marketing channels within philanthropy (email, search, ads, web, SMS, etc.).
  • Responsible for overseeing creative direction, and writing or collaborating with writers on copy, editing and proofing compelling, strategic and persuasive content copy for digital channels within philanthropy and consulting with relevant teams for alignment.
  • Schedule photo and video shoots as required to maintain a compelling creative database.
  • In collaboration with Donor Experience & Impact team, builds relationships and leads interviews with staff, volunteers, beneficiaries and other stakeholders to develop compelling and engaging stories about our work and mission.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the writing style, message and tone unique to the Canadian Red Cross and creates copy that demonstrates the brand's personality, ensures consistency and adherence to brand and content style standards, spelling and grammar.
  • Act as an essential connection for French-language content creation and digital campaign management.
  • Liaise with external agencies, Digital Communications and Philanthropy for redcross.ca and croixrouge.ca content strategy and updates.
  • Actively participate in campaign and appeal meetings and support content requests.
  • Understand current web trends and search engine optimization best practices specific to the work of Canadian Red Cross.
  • Build relationships with cross-functional teams in order to understand their needs and goals, and ensure that the donor audience perspective is being considered.
  • In collaboration with Donor Experience & Impact, consults with national and regional program teams as needed to gather information to support fundraising campaigns and emergency appeals.
  • Provide on-call assistance during weekends, emergencies and appeals.

What we are looking for :

  • Qualifications include a minimum of 4-7 years experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in communications, fundraising, marketing or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and fundraising databases.
  • Ability to interpret complex information and to communicate it to a variety of audiences
  • Experience developing creative and content strategies that inspire action.
  • Experience writing and editing compelling cases for support to achieve fundraising targets for digital and mass marketing campaigns.
  • In-depth knowledge of content requirements for all digital mediums including email, SMS, web and advertising.
  • Demonstrated understanding of international humanitarian issues an asset.
  • Communication and influence skills to gather perspectives, understand needs, and present information to reach consensus, often in somewhat sensitive situations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects in parallel
  • Bilingualism French/English will be an asset in this role
