The Role:

We are currently seeking an Accounting Technician to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone with 2-4 years of experience in a public accounting firm environment who is seeking to grow their career in a dynamic and supportive workplace.

This role is focused on full-cycle accounting and tax preparation duties, while also supporting a small number of administrative functions related to client service and internal operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Tax Duties

  • Perform full-cycle bookkeeping for a variety of clients, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and month-end procedures
  • Complete bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Prepare working paper files for compilation engagements
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end financial statements
  • Prepare personal (T1) and corporate (T2) tax returns
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of GST/HST, payroll, and other government remittances
  • Conduct basic financial analysis and identify discrepancies or areas for client improvement

Client & Administrative Support

  • Greet clients upon arrival and help situate them for their meeting.
  • Assist with client onboarding, including collecting documentation, preparing engagement letters, and setting up client files
  • Respond to CRA requests and client inquiries in a professional and timely manner
  • Provide support for client meetings, scheduling, and correspondence as needed
  • Help maintain organized and up-to-date digital files and records

Qualifications:

Mandatory

  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Experience in a similar role, preferably in a public accounting firm
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, CaseWare, QuickBooks, and Sage 50
  • Comfortable learning and adapting to new accounting and tax software quickly
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a professional and client-focused approach

Assets

  • Experience preparing personal and corporate tax returns
  • Familiarity with tax software used to complete T1 and T2 returns
  • Knowledge of payroll, GST/HST, and other government filings
  • Experience handling CRA correspondence and reviews

Work Schedule & Flexibility:

  • Mandatory in-office attendance Monday to Friday from January 1 to June 30 (peak tax season)
  • Discussions for hybrid or remote work options available July 1 to December 31
  • Paid Fridays off in August
  • 10 days of paid vacation annually, in addition to summer Fridays
