Junior Hydrogeologist / Environmental Engineer / Geoscientist

GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Junior Hydrogeologist/ Environmental Engineer/ Geoscientist to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a full-time Junior Hydrogeologist/ Environmental Engineer/ Geoscientist in our Ottawa, Ontario office.

This opportunity involves working as part of a team of hydrogeologists, environmental engineers, scientists and technologists on a variety of projects for a range of public and private sector clients. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, energetic individual looking for a challenge in a dynamic work environment.

The successful candidate will have the following:

Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in geological engineering, geoscience, environmental engineering, hydrogeology or civil engineering.
  • Familiarity with industry standard environmental sampling procedures/practices and the equipment used during sampling and measurement of field data.
  • Able to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment, and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • 1+ years of related environmental experience considered an asset.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Word to tabulate data and prepare reports is required. Proficiency in other relevant software programs including AQTESOLV, MODFLOW, AutoCAD, GIS, and Adobe Acrobat, are considered an asset.
  • Eligible to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in Ontario.

Main Duties:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Completing, supervising, and coordination of well development, water quality sampling, hydraulic testing, infiltration rate testing, packer testing and pumping tests.
  • Measuring and recording field data using equipment, such as water quality meters, hydraulic testing equipment, water level meters, oil/water interface probes, data loggers, GPS and survey gear, etc.
  • Monitoring of subcontractors during the drilling of boreholes, installation of wells, and excavation of test pits, including soil classification and rock core logging.
  • Mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting skills; experience with various field equipment, tools, generators and pumps is considered an asset.
  • Working with and carrying heavy loads of equipment, supplies, and environmental samples in adverse conditions such as rough terrain, inclement weather, construction sites, rural locations, and heavily vegetated areas.
  • Producing detailed documentation of field conditions, measurements, and observations to aid in the preparation of client deliverables (drawings/site plans, borehole/monitoring well logs, photo logs, data tables, written reports, etc.).
  • Assisting in preparation of proposals and technical deliverables (e.g., hydrogeology / water supply assessment reports, terrain analyses, etc.).
  • Liaise with geotechnical and environmental team leads to coordinate multidisciplinary projects, including responsibility for scheduling hydrogeological field components and reporting deliverables.
  • Compilation, organization, and interpretation of laboratory data and regulatory criteria.
  • Adhering to client and corporate health and safety protocols/procedures/practices.
  • Other duties as required.

Position:

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week). Overtime eligible.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License that is valid for use in Ontario and must have regular access to a reliable vehicle (work related travel will be compensated).
