The Nova Scotia SPCA is hiring a fundraiser! We are looking for a relationship builder who can inspire individuals to support our mission.
The Nova Scotia SPCA is a registered charity dedicated to aiding companion animals in need throughout Nova Scotia. Thanks to the generous support of our donors and clients, we supported nearly 24,000 pets in 2024 through animal welfare efforts, innovative programs, and rehoming initiatives.
As the Nova Scotia SPCA Development Officer, your focus is relationship-building, personalized donor engagement, and revenue growth. You deepen donor relationships and support their journey toward higher levels of giving, including potential major gifts.
With strong interpersonal skills and a donor-first mindset, you excel in building meaningful connections with individuals. Your excellent verbal and written communication abilities allow you to engage effectively with donors, ensuring their needs and motivations are understood and addressed. As a strategic thinker, you support donor gift growth through thoughtful cultivation, always keeping their best interests at heart. You are well-organized and pay close attention to detail, which helps you manage multiple priorities efficiently. Comfortable working with performance metrics and data, you use these insights to inform and refine strategies. You thrive in collaborative team environments but are also capable of working independently when needed. Your familiarity with fundraising principles, donor motivations, and mid-level giving best practices further enhances your ability to connect with and support donors
Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 140 mid-level donors, focusing on donors giving up to $5,000, through regular touchpoints, data-driven segmentation, and alignment with the "Here for Good" campaign and overall Fund Development strategy, while collaborating with key campaign leaders to support donor development and major gift readiness.
- Develop and implement personalized donor engagement strategies, including cultivation and stewardship plans, moves management tracking, creation of compelling donor materials, and collaboration with the communications team to enhance mid-level donor outreach and retention.
- Develop and implement tailored stewardship and recognition plans for mid-level donors, support donor events to cultivate these supporters, and ensure timely and meaningful donor acknowledgement and communication in collaboration with the donor services team.
- Track and report on portfolio performance, collaborate with the development team to ensure coordinated donor engagement strategies, and contribute ideas and feedback to campaign and strategic planning discussions within the Fund Development team.
What you bring to the role:
- You are a great listener and storyteller who enjoys engaging with people.
- You understand how to build relationships with people on behalf of the SPCA's mission.
- You're ready to make a difference in the lives of animals by asking individuals to help support the overall direction of the Nova Scotia SPCA.
- A positive and enthusiastic outlook, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to be persuasive, welcoming, warm and encouraging.
- Self-directed and able to drive your own efficient and effective work process to be successful.
- You are comfortable with overnight travel within the province and you have a valid drivers license.
Not a traditional fundraiser? That's okay.
We believe great fundraisers come from all walks of life. If you've worked in customer service, sales, education, community organizing, or any role where you've built relationships and inspired action, your skills are highly transferable. What matters most is your passion for our mission, your ability to connect with people, and your desire to make a difference.
