The New Brunswick Legal Aid Services Commission (NBLASC) is seeking a Lawyer to fill a part-time Family Advice Lawyer contract.

The NBLASC is a team of professionals advocating with compassion. We provide legal assistance to low-income individuals and are a crucial part of a fair and equitable justice system. We are committed to access to justice, and we advocate for our clients' rights. The Family Law Information Centre (FLIC) offers free legal support on family law matters such as separation or divorce, parenting orders, child support, spousal support, non-complex marital property issues, questions related to Emergency Intervention Orders and Emergency Protection Orders.

What you will do
Working two days per week for the Family Law Information Centre, your responsibilities will include:
· Providing up to two hours of free legal advice per client at the FLIC office;
· Providing general information about forms and processes related to applications and motions in the Family Division court;
· Assisting clients in preparation of documents for applications and/or motions in non-complex cases;
· Providing general information on division on non-complex martial property;
· Providing explanation and answering questions related to Emergency Intervention Orders and Emergency Protection Orders;
· Reviewing pleadings prepared by clients;
· Providing advice regarding proposed settlements;
· Providing advice about other resources to assist clients;
· Providing duty counsel services at First Appearances;
· Informing clients about scope of Legal Aid coverage with respect to family law matters and informing them that financial information is part of the eligibility criteria.
Need to have (Essential qualifications and skills)
· Bachelor of Law Degree
· Membership in good standing or eligibility for membership with the Law Society of New Brunswick
· Completion of Articling
Please state your date of admission to a Canadian Law Society.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Wage
· $70/hour - Lawyers with more 2 or more years at the bar, or
· $58/hour - Lawyers with less than 2 years at the bar
