THE POSITION:

Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of International Business Development Manager with our Sales team.

Reporting to the Director of Sales, the International Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing international conferences that align with the strategic goals of the Halifax Convention Centre. This role plays a key part in elevating Halifax's profile as a premier meeting and convention destination on the global stage. The successful candidate will develop strategic partnerships, build a robust pipeline of qualified international leads, and work collaboratively with industry stakeholders and partners to attract major international conventions to Halifax.


THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations:

  • Identify and pursue a qualified list of potential conference opportunities aligned with key strategic sectors.
  • Develop relationships with local subject matter experts and potential local ambassadors or champions from the community that are candidates to support a Halifax bid for their respective sector conventions.
  • Collaborate with local ambassadors and partners to prepare compelling bid documents and presentations to secure international events.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with international PCO's, industry organizations, meeting planners, and key stakeholders to drive awareness, global reach, and long-term business growth.
  • Represent the Halifax Convention Centre and the city of Halifax at international trade shows, conferences, and sales missions.
  • Prepare for events by researching and prospecting registration lists and booking appointments with potential and existing clients.
  • Monitor and evaluate market dynamics, adjusting strategies and approaches as needed.
  • Develop and execute international business development strategies that align with the organization's long-term goals, with a focus on identifying and prioritizing high-impact growth opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver persuasive presentations, proposals, and communications tailored to international audiences, effectively articulating the value of the destinations offerings and facilities.
  • Lead and coordinate projects and partnership initiatives, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and objectives are consistently met across bids and business development cycles.
  • Collaborate with external partners, ensuring alignment, accountability, and shared success in executing global growth initiatives.
  • Support business development through active participation and planning of site visits and familiarization trips.
  • Other duties as required.

Administration:

  • Provide regular reports and updates on progress against annual targets related to international event opportunities, RFPs submitted, and bids won.
  • Respond promptly to all event inquiries, ensuring timely and professional communication within 24 hours.
  • Ensure accurate preparation and effective negotiation of client contracts.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, international relations, marketing or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in business development, economic development or a strategic sales role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of global association markets and international meetings landscape.
  • Experience working with CRM platforms and expert use of web search tools.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, as required.
