DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASE WORKER (FAMILY)

We are seeking a compassionate, resourceful and justice-minded professional to join our team as a full-time Domestic Violence Case Worker (Family) operating primarily out of the Liberty Lane office in Fredericton, NB. This role is ideal for someone who is committed to social change and eager to grow their skills in trauma-informed support, basic counselling and crisis support. Reporting to the Child / Youth & Family Program Coordinator and the Program Director, the Domestic Violence Case Worker (Family) will be providing case management and service delivery to residential and outreach clients who have experienced domestic violence in a manner consistent with feminist, trauma-informed, client/family centered and directed, strengths and solution focused, and harm reduction principles. You'll be part of a supportive team that is deeply committed to empowering women and families impacted by domestic violence, and to building a community where everyone can thrive.
ABOUT LIBERTY LANE
Liberty Lane Inc. is a charitable organization located in Fredericton, New Brunswick. We serve individuals affected by domestic violence through our Second Stage Housing / Residential, Child / Youth & Family and Outreach programs, as well as the community at large in the form of education / awareness / training initiatives. Our goal is to enable individuals (and their children) who have experienced domestic violence to attain personal and economic independence and a future free of violence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Individual case management and service-delivery to residential and outreach clients. General service areas include emotional and practical support; risk assessment and safety planning; system navigation; and education / awareness and personal self-development.
- Specialized service offerings delegated by the Government of New Brunswick (e.g. Danger Assessments, Emergency Intervention Orders, Gender-Based Violence Housing Subsidy Applications, early Lease Termination Applications, Coordinated Community Response to High Risk DV).
- Organizing and (co)facilitating psycho-educational / self-development groups and workshops for residential and outreach clients.
- Preparing and delivering educational / awareness presentations and workshops for the community.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential client records, case notes and documentation / statistics in accordance with agency and legal requirements.
- Participating in ongoing training, supervision and team meetings.
- Other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human / Community / Social Services or related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a relevant professional role.
- Experience in the gender-based violence sector or another community service setting considered an asset.
- Strong foundational knowledge base of the following:
- dynamics of DV, and the effects on victims / survivors and their children
- trauma, mental health and addictions
- principles of trauma-informed care
- basic counseling skills and intervention strategies
- Ability to work in the Fredericton area.
- Valid driver's license and car access to allow for travelling to various community locations, along with the ability to secure private insurance for transporting clients when necessary.
- Excellent references and successful background checks (i.e. Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Background Check from Police, Prior Contact Check from Social Development).
- Flexibility to work limited hours on occasional evenings or weekends.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE CONSIDERED ASSETS:
- Knowledge of child development / developmental stages, play-based support, attachment-based interventions and/or child-led programming.
- Knowledge of ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences).
- Experience with neurodiverse children (ASD, ADHD, ODD, FASD).
- Background in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and/or Child & Youth Care.
- Professional, clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work with clients and community members in both individual and group settings.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases while maintaining keen attention to detail.
- Ability to empathize while setting strong boundaries.
- Healthy capacity for problem-solving, responding to situations at a moment's notice, and remaining calm in crisis.
- Valuable team player, who can also be counted on to work independently and be self-directed.
- Competent computer skills including research.
- Familiarity with a broad range of local resources.
- French or other second language.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
This is a full-time 37.5 hours/week, permanent position based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, with regular on-site work at our offices and throughout the surrounding community. A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required.
The salary range for this position is $50k - $60k per year, based on experience and qualifications. Staff receive 2 weeks' paid vacation, rising to 3 weeks in the second year of employment, in addition to 13 days' paid holidays annually.
