Job Summary
This Clinical Physiotherapist II reports to the Division Manager of Neurosurgery at the Health Sciences Center Site (HSC). The incumbent plays a key leadership role at the Site and assists the PT III in the coordination of physiotherapy service delivery. The incumbent is responsible for the provision of physiotherapy services to the neurosurgical population on the inpatient ward as well as the neurosurgery special unit. Patients may present with a variety of neurosurgical conditions including Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Brain Tumors, and Spinal Cord Tumors, Cervical Myelopathy, Cervical and Lumbar Disectomy and Fusion. The incumbent may also provide physiotherapy coverage to the inpatient urology ward.
The incumbent will play a key role developing best practices in neurosurgical care and is a member of the Allied Health Traumatic Brain Injury Team as well as the Allied Health Spinal Cord Injury team. This position has the unique responsibility of advising and acting as the resource person/contact in the area of physiotherapeutic neurosurgical care for Eastern Health as well as with other professionals within the province. Supervision and delegation to Physiotherapy Support Workers and student preceptorship is an expectation.
The incumbent is an integral member of the health care team and is responsible for timely communication and documentation of relevant patient information. The incumbent is also responsible for participation in activities of the Program and the profession within Eastern Health that contribute to a Healthy Workplace and a safe environment for patients and staff. Weekend coverage and/or on-call service is required on a rotational basis. This position works collaboratively with the Clinical Physiotherapist III on site for clinical and site issues. This position maintains accountability to the Physiotherapy Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized School of Physiotherapy program is required.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapist (NLCP) is required.
A minimum of three years' experience within the last five working as a Clinical Physiotherapist with an adult neurological acute care inpatient population is required.
Demonstrated effective communication, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families in both a one-on-one and/or group environment.
Effectively translated and communicated knowledge in the specialized area of physiotherapy practice to others.
Possessed proven leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide supervision, coaching, mentorship and training to physiotherapists, physiotherapy support workers and students.
Ability to prioritize caseload and patient needs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
* The successful applicant must be willing to complete an approved Spinal Cord Injury Course and American Spinal Cord Association (ASIA) Training within the first available opportunity. The course must be completed within two years of commencing the position. Financial support may be provided by the employer.
