The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Risk Management to join our Commercial solutions team in Toronto.
As the Senior Specialist, Risk Management, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks associated with the commercial operations of Vale Base Metals. This role involves close collaboration with various departments to ensure that potential price risk exposures are managed effectively and comply with regulatory requirements.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Governance: Develop and manage the Commercial Risk Management normative documents, stay updated on regulatory changes, and advise management on necessary adjustments.
- Risk Identification and Assessment: Identify and assess price risk exposure in commercial activities.
- Risk Mitigation Strategies: Develop and implement price risk mitigation strategies, monitor their effectiveness, and provide insights to senior management.
- Reporting and Documentation: Utilize quantitative models and risk management tools to assess exposures, prepare regular risk management reports for senior management, and maintain accurate records of all risk-related activities.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with commercial teams for risk-aware decision-making, coordinate with other departments for comprehensive risk management, and liaise with external stakeholders.
- Training and Awareness: Conduct training sessions to raise awareness of price risk management practices among employees and promote a risk-aware culture within the organization.
About You
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in related field, preferably complemented by a professional certification such as FRM, CFA, or PRM.
Experience:
- 7-10 in risk management, financial analysis, or a similar role, preferably in the mining industry.
Skills:
- Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, with a strong proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools, enabling comprehensive analysis and interpretation of complex data sets.
- Demonstrated expertise in utilizing risk management software and tools to effectively identify, assess, and mitigate risks.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and adherence to industry best practices to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
- Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with a proven track record of approaching challenges with innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, facilitating effective cross-functional collaboration and the clear conveyance of complex information.
- Proven ability to thrive under pressure, managing multiple tasks and priorities efficiently in high-stress environments.
- Strong autonomous and independent work ethic, demonstrating self-motivation, organizational skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
