The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Control & Automation Advisor to join our Maintenance Engineering & Reliability Team in Long Harbour, NL. Relocation to the province of Newfoundland & Labrador will be required for this role.

This is a permanent on-site position, working a 4x10s Monday to Thursday schedule at our Long Harbour Operations Site.

As a Control & Automation Advisor you will maintain and improve Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and the integrated DCS & PLC Networks. Your experience and skills will aid with commissioning support, interfacing with process engineers and package vendors, and control loop tuning and logic/HMI modifications.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Use your expertise to provide quick response during production downtime and ensure the plant is put back into production in a safe manner.
  • Lead design for DCS and PLC improvement initiatives, develop scope for system changes, and determine technical and economic viability of various options for projects.
  • Provide recommendations to continually improve PLC and plant performance in terms of process control.
  • Evaluate and commission new automation equipment.
  • Provide interface with external vendors to implement improvement projects and best practices for automation systems.
  • Monitor new software, hardware and developments in the industry and related fields, making proposals on the system improvements to the direct manager.

About You

Education:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering Degree or Engineering Technologist Diploma is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with Control & Automation is required.
  • Knowledge of Emerson Delta V and allen Bradley PLC is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
