Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance Director will Identify and implement strategies and new initiatives for the financial management and administration of the organization, ensuring SportNL is availing of all funding and grant initiatives available to the organization by researching and staying on top of funding opportunities, developing and maintaining financial accounting systems and managing all bookkeeping functions using Simply Accounting.

The Finance Director executes all aspects of finance, with a strong focus on full-cycle accounting and reporting, financial process and policy development, corporate budgeting and forecasting, including project and event-based budgeting, and all funding and grant applications. They work collaboratively with other departments and senior leaders to support funding and grant initiatives as well as budgeting requirements to help the organization succeed against its mandate and provide exceptional service and support to members.

As the organizational expert on industry financial and accounting trends, they are responsible for ensuring the financial and administrative management of Sport NL is in accordance with legislation, regulation, policies, procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Ideal Candidate

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Management/ Administration.

• 5+ Years experience in a leadership role with financial responsibility and accountability.

• Chartered Accountant, Certified General Accountant, or Certified Management Accountant designation is an asset.

• Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting and internal control principles.

• Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation affecting charities.

• Knowledge of provincial legislation on Employment Standards, Occupational Health and Safety, and Human Rights.

• Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

• Strong communication skills (written and oral).

• Ability to work in a team environment.

• Tech savvy and working knowledge of basic office tools such as MS Office, Excel.

• Proficiency in the use of computer programs for accounting, specifically Simply Accounting
