The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure's mission is to contribute to New Brunswick's economy and quality of life by providing and supporting sustainable infrastructure that allows for the safe and efficient movement of people, goods and government services to the public. Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.

What you will do

Reporting to the Manager of the Architecture Section, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • creating architectural drawings and writing specifications for tender packages;
  • reviewing, evaluating and selecting products;
  • performing contract administration and consulting services;
  • investigating and assessing architectural building issues providing a solution to client departments.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 440 King Street, Fredericton.
  • Open office layout.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday – Friday.
  • We promote a scent-reduced environment.
  • Travel within the province will be required.
  • Occasionally on construction sites.

Essential Qualifications:

Engineering and Field - Level VII:

  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year program in architectural technology, or civil technology with coursework in the architectural field.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible related work experience, which includes two (2) years of project management experience, or additional related formal technical education, training or experience.
  • Experience working with the National Building Code, the National Master Specification, AutoCAD Software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may consider applicants with the following qualifications and appoint at a lower classification.

Engineering and Field - Level VI:

  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year program in architectural technology, or civil technology with coursework in the architectural field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible related work experience, which includes one (1) year of project management experience, or additional technical experience.
  • Experience working with the National Building Code, the National Master Specification, AutoCAD Software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

Engineering and Field - Level V:

  • Diploma from a recognized two (2) year program in architectural technology, or civil technology with coursework in the architectural field.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible related work experience.
  • Experience working with the National Building Code, the National Master Specification, AutoCAD Software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following assets:

  • one (1) year experience in specification writing;
  • experience with the provincial building code administration act and municipal bylaws.

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY:

Engineering and Field - Level VII: $2,327.00 to $2,932.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.

Engineering and Field - Level VI: $2,126.00 to $2,671.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.

Engineering and Field - Level V: $1,935.00 to $2,434.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.
