The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Principal Geologist to join our Ontario Brownfields Exploration team in Sudbury.
This is a permanent position.
As a Principal Geologist, you will be a technical leader that contributes to the geological exploration and evaluation of our existing mines and Brownfield properties. Main accountabilities include identifying opportunities for expansion, optimization, and improvement, and providing technical expertise to support business development and growth. Your experience and skill will allow you to provide technical expertise to support business development and growth initiatives within Ontario, lead technical professionals, and collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment and effective communication.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including mine operations, processing facilities, and other departments.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Vale's guidelines and standards.
- Provide training and mentoring to less experienced personnel as required.
- Provide technical expertise to support business development and growth.
- Collaborate with other departments, including mining, processing, and engineering, to ensure alignment and integration of exploration activities.
Education:
- Undergraduate in Geoscience discipline.
- P. Geo, P. Eng or equivalent is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 11 years of geoscience experience including exploration and resource management, geological and geostatistical modelling, managing multiple technically complex projects, working with multidisciplinary technical and operational teams, and developing junior geological professionals.
Skills:
- Proven track record of success in leading and managing geological exploration and evaluation projects
- Strong technical expertise in geology, including mapping, sampling, and data analysis
- A background in structural geology and modelling is considered an asset
- Knowledge of geophysical surveying techniques, including magnetic, gravity, and electromagnetic methods
- Advanced skills in using 3D modelling software to create detailed lithostructural models
- Experience in the application of statistical and geostatistical methods to assess the size and grade of mineral deposits
- Understanding of exploration drilling techniques, including diamond drilling
- Ability to integrate and interpret geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to generate exploration targets and support decision-making
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on meeting deadlines and achieving results
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards and regulations in an exploration and mining environment
- Knowledge and understanding of local community relations and stakeholder management.
