Senior Communication Specialist

Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with a team of experienced Public Relations specialists, strategists, and communicators to deliver to draft and deliver effective communications strategies.
- As a trusted advisor, provide strategic advice to teams across the organization, including employees at all levels, including senior leadership and executive.
- Support government relations activities as well as public engagement and consultation initiatives in support of Hydro's business goals.
- Communicate and engage with partners and interested publics, especially on important projects and initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with Hydro's Strategic Communications, Brand, and Culture team to support content strategy and development of public messaging for Hydro's digital platforms.
- Support issue management and crisis response, including on-call crisis communications support and media relations.
- Support corporate communications including development of key messages, releases, statements, briefing notes, etc.
- Maintain working knowledge of evolving economic, political, and social issues that affect our business.
What We're Looking For:
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with members of various teams;
- Proven supervisory experience;
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
What You'll Need:
- A post-secondary degree in a related field such as Public Relations, Communications, Business, etc.
- 10+ years' experience working in public affairs, government relations, media relations or strategic communications.
- Experience advising senior level management and executive.
- Strategic thinker; pulls the most important insights from large amounts of complex information.
- Experience implementing a wide range of engagement or communication plans and projects.
- Compelling, articulate writer; presents information concisely and appropriately for the audience's level of interest and understanding.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the flexibility to work collaboratively, but also drive tasks forward independently within established processes when necessary.
- Calm and steady in high pressure situations with a proven ability to balance competing deadlines and schedules.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to personal and workplace safety is a must.
- Understanding of and interest in government process and public policy is an asset.
- Experience working with utilities, crown organizations, or highly complex and technical workplaces is an asset.
