MARINE DISPATCHER (HALIFAX) Reference Number: 2025-DIS02

Location: Office-based, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Position Type: Unionized, Full-Time
Reports To: Dispatch Manager
Schedule: Shift Work

The Atlantic Pilotage Authority are currently seeking a full-time Marine Dispatcher to join our team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the Dispatch Manager, the Dispatcher is responsible for all aspects of the pilotage operations as it relates to dispatching during their duty shift. The successful incumbent will participate in an extensive employment training program, commencing as a Dispatch Apprentice.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

· Must possess an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a related field.

· Previous experience as a dispatcher, or in similar roles working in customer service and/or logistics and resource planning required.

· Previous experience in the marine and/or maritime shipping industry considered an asset.

Skills and Competencies

· Self-motivated with excellent organizational and oral communication skills.

· A strong ability to analyze, prioritize and plan in a fast-paced computerized environment.

· Considerable knowledge of communications equipment.

· Ability to make informed decisions and assign priorities objectively under time-sensitive conditions.

· General knowledge of the geography of the Atlantic Provinces. Additional knowledge of marine waterways is considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

· Determines pilotage assignment requirements based on an analysis of information and requests for service received and communicates this information to various stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient marine navigation.

· Effectively communicate with agents, captains, marine traffic, pilots, and other stakeholders.

· Utilize an internal dispatching system to assign pilots in accordance with regulations, procedures, and rotation schedules.

· Ensure data entered is timely and accurate for record keeping, and for the preparation of statistical and operational reports.

· Participate in training as required or assigned within the department as dispatcher or dispatcher/accounts clerk.
